Built to Understand How Things Work: 30+ Years in Tech and Engineering
I am a blue-collar guy at heart who happens to have spent over thirty years working in high-level information technology. For me, tech isn’t about buzzwords or trends. It’s an obsession with engineering, mechanics, and systems that started when I was a kid building my own electronics.
I am fascinated by how things are put together and how they move—whether it’s the invention of the wheel, a high-performance hotrod, a jet engine, a helicopter, or the complex infrastructure of a nuclear power plant. If it can be built, optimized, or fixed, I want to understand how it works under the hood.
A Career Built on Practical Grit
My professional IT background mirrors this hands-on mentality. I didn’t start in a corporate office; I started at a workbench fixing hardware and out in the field solving immediate problems. Over three decades, I followed that thread into every corner of the industry:
- The Fundamentals: Years spent handling bench tech diagnostics, field support, and SMB infrastructure.
- Specialized Environments: Managing high-stakes, regulated systems for medical offices, hospital IT networks, and municipal operations.
- Complex Infrastructure: Scaling up to handle senior network engineering, manufacturing infrastructure management, project deployment, and founding multiple MSP’s.
- The Evolution of Compute: Working with virtualization and cloud technologies from their absolute foundations, seeing firsthand how the shift from bare-metal servers to modern virtual architecture actually took place.
Constant Building and Root-Cause Analysis
Whether I am troubleshooting an enterprise network failure or tracking down a mechanical issue, my approach is always the same: a deep dive into root-cause analysis. I don’t put tape over a warning light.
That drive to build and fix doesn’t stop when I log off. In my spare time, I’m usually working on cars, remodeling my own home, or experimenting with microcontrollers and 3D printers. This website is a personal space to express that lifelong interest in technology, share perspectives as a consultant, and look at where engineering is headed next.
